Leatherface has found his latest target — “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” star Alexandra Daddario is in final negotiations to play the female lead in “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D.”
John Luessenhop (“Takers”) is directing the pic, a reimagining that picks up after Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic. Adam Marcus and Debra Sullivan co-wrote the script, which was polished by Kirsten Elms and Luessenhop.
Carl Mazzocone is producing; Avi Lerner and Mark Burg exec produce. Producers hope the film will reboot a fright franchise featuring the chainsaw-loving villain Leatherface. New Line and Platinum Dunes’ 2003 remake grossed more than $107 million worldwide and helped launch Jessica Biel’s career.
Lionsgate is handling domestic distribution and Nu Image takes international sales for the pic, which is skedded for release on Oct. 5, 2012. Production is set to start later this month in Shreveport, La.
Daddario recently appeared on USA’s “White Collar” and in the Farrelly Bros.’ “Hall Pass.” Thesp is also expected to reprise the role of Annabeth Chase in “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Sea of Monsters.”
